YARN WITH A STORY TO TELL
Hilda came to join our sanctuary flock in May 2017. A young Herdwick ewe with a twisted neck, she was too deformed to breed from and too thin to send to market by her former owner. We loved her from the outset for her quirkiness and curiosity, and any animal with special needs or ‘defects’ is all the more perfect to us! Hilda is a huge character in our lively mixed flock of girls, happily posing for the camera and getting up to mischief whenever she can. This is her first yarn and it's a beautiful blend with grey alpaca fibre which has added a little softness to the strong, wiry Herdwick texture.
Our high welfare artisan yarn is from a small mixed flock of sheep at our livestock sanctuary in Nottinghamshire UK. The boys were originally called The Hooligans because of their boisterous behaviour and unerring knack of seeking out trouble, and although the girls are generally better behaved, they also have their moments. And so Hooligan Yarns was born!
Yarn sales go directly to support our charity Manor Farm Charitable Trust which offers lifelong sanctuary for livestock in need. UK Registered Charity No. 1173761.
